It’s interesting to observe, as my mind flits through past historical accounts of manmade surveillance vs God’s surveillance through the centuries, that man’s usage of state surveillance has always been, without fail, on the harsher end of the stick than the benevolent. While yes, history records God wiping out whole civilizations whose ways were an abominable stench before Him, Scripture records the ways God always provided a way out if the people would take it. When the people wouldn’t take it, He had no choice but to deliver consequences. Generally-speaking, man’s idea of providing a way out of their consequences is to renounce any effort to follow God’s ways and mold to depraved man’s demands.
When you look at God’s ways vs man’s ways, God’s version of watching you vs man’s version of watching you, God’s consequences vs man’s consequences, something else comes to the surface. . .
Even in man’s depraved, sinful state, God’s laws are STILL written on their hearts, including consequences. But in man’s depraved state, penalty for going against what they deem to be right and wrong is dealt with using an Old Testament ferocity. Right and Wrong may be royally skewed in their minds, but going against their ideas of right and wrong is so harsh that one could be forgiven for wishing they were under God’s rule again.
Depraved man’s punishment is incredibly harsh and unforgiving! Look at the culture of offense, springing up in just the past 5+ years morphing into “cancel culture” in just 1.5 years’ time. The idea that if you dig into a person’s past far enough, you’ll find something so offensive that you can use it to wipe their name off whatever map they are trying to get onto right now. There is no forgiveness in the mind of depraved man. There is only revenge, vengeful thoughts and behaviours, turning on each other at the slightest deviation from demanded norms. When at one time they cried foul at Christians and their morals and ethics claiming they were shoving such things down their throats, the tide has turned and now it’s depraved man’s way or the highway and they’ll be sure to strew that highway with as many spike belts as they can throw out, unaware that in their helter-skelter efforts to chase you down to do you in, they’ll trip over those very spike belts themselves.
It’s interesting how much of this is actually in Scripture. Proverbs says
Burning lips and a wicked heart are like a potsherd covered with silver dross. He that hateth dissembleth with his lips, and layeth up deceit within him; When he speaketh fair, believe him not: for there are seven abominations in his heart. Whose hatred is covered by deceit, his wickedness shall be shewed before the whole congregation. Whoso diggeth a pit shall fall therein: and he that rolleth a stone, it will return upon him. A lying tongue hateth those that are afflicted by it; and a flattering mouth worketh ruin. Proverbs 26:23-28
Proverbs also says that the evil man lays wait for his prey and becomes prey himself:
And they lay wait for their own blood; they lurk privily for their own lives. Proverbs 1:18
We are watching the Liberal Left eat their own! They can’t agree on the moral/ethical/political/societal norms they demand and what they allowed only 5 years ago is now anathema by anyone who takes part in it. How do they expect that for decades, they’d ruin America’s view of sexuality, then rail on about how offensive it is that any leader of society would engage in such deviated behaviour except those they are trying to shove down everyone’s throat? Just as one example, but this example has been successfully used in the past 6 years to dethrone anyone they don’t like from any position they want their own people in instead.
As believers, we are to uphold God’s ideas of political/moral/ethical/societal behaviour, not those of the entertainment industry, not those of the mainstream media, not those of the political liberal left, God’s ways only! This means we are fast becoming the enemy of the state as has happened at many times throughout recorded history.
We must pray asking God for wisdom, insight, foresight, discernment, understanding, and the boldness and the means to put those day-to-day-rubber-meets-the-road-boots-on-the-ground revelations into practice.
Psalm 10, 59 and Micah 7 are good reads for the time we now live in. I encourage you to look up those three chapters and give them a read, then pray about them and where western society is at this time. As God leads you, take the action He directs as He directs it, even if it goes against what other believers around you are saying or doing or approving/disapproving of. Be watchful, be wise!
